Notes & Combos
About 89 wins I believe (by subtracting 4 wins from Duelist Kingdom out of 93).
Not the easiest climb, but luckily the issues I had were between Legend 3 and 4, and not in Legend 5.
Most of the time, going 1st was a guaranteed win---many decks just can't win through Ensemblue, Dweller, Lancea, Och/Bethor, I:P/Goddess/Unicorn. Even if they draw Droplet, they almost always let us get to Main Phase, which lets I:P dodge it by reducing the number of monsters I control below the number of sent cards.
Whenever I went 2nd, all I needed was a Drytron name and I felt confident. Some notable matchups were Traptrix, Branded, Swordsoul, Orcust, and Dark Magician.
- Traptrix wasn't easy, but because I know Traptrix very well, I didn't have trouble playing through their 6 interruptions. (I did draw Droplet twice, but I'd say I still played through 5 disruptions.)
- Branded was never easy if I went 2nd, only because I had to draw Droplet to deal with Masquerade. Branded Opening is really annoying protection that I can only get around by resolving Lancea on their turn, which isn't happening when I go 2nd. Going 1st though, free win.
- I got used to beating Swordsoul going 2nd and going 1st. If they made a 90% board (Chixiao, Qixing, Blackout), I could typically OTK through it, because they tend to make Qixing instead of Chengying, letting me wait on Meteonis Drytron until I deal with it.
- Sadly, Orcust was easy to beat going 2nd. They make I:P which is a free route to Underworld Goddess just by controlling 3 monsters, while Goddess negates Cymbal Skeleton, and Lancea ends their turn even if I didn't OTK.
- Dark Magician was doable because I would bait Dark Magical Circle as early as possible, then get to Goddess, linking off Dragon Knight. If they had Dragoon on the field as well, then I would negate it since Dragoon can't negate Goddess, and Goddess negates Eternal Soul.
