For the first time in 5 years, the bugs are back in meta with a brand new archetype : Beetrooper. Now that it's tier 2, I think a guide to learn the basic stuff could be great.

With the box Predator of the abyss, we had the chance to see new insect cards with a very versatile Link/Fusion deck. In this article, I'll show you some first turn combos, how to play against certain match ups and the strengths of the deck.

The skill

This skill is very original and looks like Icejade Ripple , but better. It still sends monsters in the graveyard at the beginning of your first turn, but it sends 2 INSECT monsters instead of just Beetrooper monsters, which is very advantageous with Loading... , which lets you send Loading... to add a level 4 monster, like Loading... or Loading... to your hand. Moreover, you have a second effect in the skill that lets you add a level 5 or higher monster from your Deck or graveyard, like Loading... or Loading... for free basically during the second turn, and for an itty tiny cost during the first turn, and it makes you gain 3 THOUSAND Life Points, which is very useful to survive (and if you want to get another advantage you can set a Beetrooper card instead of adding a monster).

The cards

The cards this deck contains are very interesting and have a good synergy since they rarely ask for specific cards/archetypes to activate their effects.

Beetrooper Sting Lancer

Beetrooper Sting Lancer
This card is certainly the best monster of the deck: it adds a Beetrooper Spell or Trap, like Loading... or Loading... . This card is also a great counter to Loading... . I would recommend to play 2 of this card in your deck.

Beetrooper Scout Buggy

Beetrooper Scout Buggy
This card allows to summon another copy of himself from anywhere, except the banished monsters. This card is very important, you have to play it at 2 to be able to use its effect. Don't play it at 3 since it's easily summonable with Loading... or you can send it to the graveyard with the skill.

Beetrooper Light Flapper

Beetrooper Light Flapper
This card is basically a card you really don't want to get in your starting hand since you mostly want to summon it with Loading... or Loading... in some rarer scenarios. It allows you to add 2 Beetrooper monsters from your graveyard or banished zone to your hand, but you won't be able to activate their effects (except if they are Extra deck monsters). Play this card at 2 if you are scared of getting it in your starting hand or to draw it with Loading... .

Beetrooper Armor Horn

Beetrooper Armor Horn
This card is crazy. It lets you normal summon one more time (even if the deck does not need to have two normal summons) and it special summons itself for a ridiculous price. You absolutely need to have it in your extra deck.

Giant Beetrooper Invincible Atlas

Giant Beetrooper Invincible Atlas
This card allows you to special summon a Beetrooper monster from your deck, like it was previously said with Loading... . The best part with this monster is that it's untargetable and indestructible with cards effects while it doesn't go over it's original attack. You can also use this monster to otk but it's not important.

Beetrooper Cruel Saturnas

Beetrooper Cruel Saturnas
This card is very important. It recycles a banished Beetrooper monster and adds any Beetrooper card from your deck to your hand. You will almost never need to summon it twice and you don't have much space in your Extra deck, so one of it is just what you need.

Ultra Beetrooper Absolute Hercules

Ultra Beetrooper Absolute Hercules

This card is mostly for stall. You use it for 2 reasons:

  • You want an unaffected monster that is strong and helps you to break your opponent's board.

  • Your opponent activated a hand trap that annoys you and you decided to stall since you don't have the choice.

This card is a very good car since it also summons almost any monster from your graveyard at the end of the battle phase. Play it at 1, no more, no less.

Beetrooper Landing

Beetrooper Landing
This card is just a fusion card (that is not searchable with Loading... but we don't care). You use it to fusion summon and you can recycle it and that's pretty much all.

Beetrooper Fly & Sting

Beetrooper Fly & Sting
It's certainly a good card: you can negate an opponent's monster's effect (with no chance to respond to since it's a counter trap) and it comes back on each of your end phases. Just play it at 1 since you can add it and can only use it once per turn.

Resonance Insect
Retaliating "C"
Gokipole
The Loading... adds a level 5 or more monster from your deck, such as Loading... , Loading... or even Loading... , to your hand when it's sent from the field to the graveyard. It also sends 1 insect monster from the deck, such as Loading... , to the graveyard when it's banished. Loading... has similar effect, but with Earth insect monsters with max 1500 ATK, but it's also a floodgate (I love floodgates). Loading... has an interesting effect that adds any level 4 insect from your deck to the graveyard (and special summon it + destroy a monster if it's a normal monster) when it's sent from anywhere to the graveyard. In these 3 monsters, only Loading... is once per turn.

Supply Soldier of the Indestructible Insects

Supply Soldier of the Indestructible Insects
This card is just a fusion summon that summons itself in response to an insect monster's effect. But something that most people don't know is that it negates the effect it special summoned in response to if it's an opponent's effect.

Special summons

Beetrooper Assault Roller
Aztekipede, the Worm Warrior
Beetrooper Scale Bomber
Beetrooper Descent
Most of these cards special summon themselves to do combos, and Loading... can be on your endboard since it tributes an insect monster in response to a monster's effect on the field to destroy it and Loading... can destroy a spell or trap on the field if you control an insect monster with min 3000 ATK.

Inzektor Picofalena

Inzektor Picofalena
This card is a generic link (only for the deck) that equips an insect monster from your deck, like a search or Loading... , to another insect you control by just discarding 1 card. It can also shuffle 3 insects from your graveyard to your deck to draw 1 card. It's one of the most important monsters of the deck, letting you card advantage and destroy an opponent's card going second.

Seraphim Papillion

Seraphim Papillion
This card is mostly here to play around nibiru. You can special summon a max level 4 insect from your graveyard with it, but not during the turn it's summoned. It's good, but not great.

Traptrix Atypus

Traptrix Atypus
This card is very helpful to play going second, negating opponent's cards for nothing, just by targeting them.

Heavy Cavalry of the Indestructible Insects

Heavy Cavalry of the Indestructible Insects
This card is pretty good, banishing an insect you control and a monster your opponent controls. The most important part is that it's a quick effect. This card is not recyclable if you banish itself. So play it at 2 if you plan to do so.

Decklist

With every card presented, the decklist should look like this:

27 cards
Beetrooper Scout Buggy

Traptrix Atypus
Giant Beetrooper Invincible Atlas

You can replace an Armor Horn with another Heavy Cavalry and you can change the ratios of the cards in the Main Deck, but try to follow the advice about the ratios.

The Loading... can be replaced with another Trap Hole but this one is the most recommended.

Combos

There are 2 main combos in the Deck and one combo if you can't do the others.

  • First combo
  • Second Combo
  • Emergency Combo

Alt text

Required: 1 monster that can special summon itself (except Loading... /Loading... /Loading... + 1 insect monster

-Loading... 's effect to add a Trap Hole from your deck to your hand

Alt text

Required: 1 monster that can special summon itself by banishing a monster from your graveyard/Loading... + 1 insect monster

Alt text

Required: Loading... or Loading... + 1 insect monster

Strengths

This deck has several strengths. This deck is very versatile, it can play around too many negates, it doesn't need to fear floodgates, but it has floodgates. The going first combos are pretty hard to counter and the end boards are really strong and hard to deal with.

Weaknesses

This deck has still a certain amount of weaknesses. The deck is very complex and use your timer too much. It's also very fragile if you don't have follow up in your hand. It's most fragile against Loading... and Loading... .

Go second

There are mainly 3 kinds of go second: the classic one, the less classic one and the shinobird one.

The classic one: The classic one consists of adding Loading... with the skill and sending Loading... to do as much summons as you can to force your opponent to use as much outs as he can.

The less classic one: This one can be recommended against Branded and maybe Chimera. Instead of adding Loading... with the skill, you will add Loading... in order to use it to return a monster from your opponent's graveyard to their deck, for exemple when they activate Loading... or the effect of Loading... too late.

The shinobird one: for this one, you have 2 choices:

  • You can set Loading... to try to avoid the Loading... . This version is recommended if you have a staple or too much extenders in your hand.

  • You try to summon Loading... at any cost. You set Loading... with your skill or add Loading... and summon Loading... from your graveyard to have enough materials. I personally use this one but I don't know if there is another one that allows you to otk efficiently.

Best staples

For this deck, you will like to get staples that could have some synergy with your cards. So you will more likely play Loading... to send your Loading... or Loading... from your field to your graveyard, or even Loading... from your hand. It will make you gain card advantage with a card that makes you lose it with a huge advantage. In my opinion, Loading... is still a better choice since it has the same advantage of sending a card to your graveyard, but it destroys your monster, which is a very important part since Loading... summons a Beetrooper token when an insect on your field is destroyed. For the other staples, you would just play the best staples, like Loading... , Loading... or even Loading... .

Thank you for reading this guide to play Beetrooper, I hope this won't be totally useless and helps you to learn this deck.
