Notes & Combos

volviendo por estas tierras, con un deck trampero como siempre.

Coming back here once again with another Trap-focused deck. This time I wanted to combine a Gravekeeper strategy with Necrovalley and Trap Monsters. The strategy focuses mainly on controlling the game and protecting the most important card in the deck: Necrovalley.

Obviously, this card is extremely powerful for stopping many decks and will give you most of your victories. Especially against the current meta, its ability to lock the opponent’s Graveyard makes it deadly in these times.

It’s clear that, since Necrovalley is limited to 1, it’s a card you have to protect at all costs. That’s why in this deck it has its main bodyguards: Apophis, which can protect it from pretty much everything, and Necrovalley Temple, a card that allows you to bring our precious Necrovalley back to the field from the Graveyard or even from the hand during the Main Phase.

This card is very important because you can make your opponent waste their removal on Necrovalley, only for you to bring it back afterward. This can be completely unexpected for the opponent and can make them waste one of their best answers.

The deck’s Turn 1, with Apophis and Anguish, is pretty good against basically everything. You can practically negate the opponent’s existence itself.

The main MVPs of this strategy are definitely Apophis. The Seal is also extremely useful in turns where you brick. Being able to negate a Spell for the entire duel can save you from an OTK, and it can be absolutely deadly against decks like Branded and Chimera, which have become pretty common lately.

Another MVP is definitely Necrovalley Temple, thanks to its unexpected ability to recover Necrovalley from the Graveyard. The opponent might think they finally got rid of Necrovalley, only for you to bring it right back and completely shut down their strategy again.

And of course, Anguish is another important part of the strategy. Combined with the Apophis cards, it can destroy a lot of cards and put a huge amount of pressure on the opponent while you continue controlling the game. Gravekeeper’s Commandant is another key MVP thanks to its ability to search for Necrovalley on Turn 2. It’s deadly when combined with the Sphere, especially if you’re going up against Snake-Eyes.

The problem with the deck comes on Turn 2, since it is quite dependent on the Skill to actually do things. If you don’t have it available, you can end up being pretty useless, since you rely heavily on always having an Apophis available to start playing and maintain control of the field. https://youtu.be/3pShsPy42X0?si=C-rEiHM7DdMZrwDV
