Notes & Combos
Tenyi is a broken deck in Duel Links. I have played Tenyi Swordsoul in Master Duel, so I was kind of familiar with the Tenyi engine at this point. However, the deck totally exceeded my expectations.
I made the climb from Platinum 6 to Legend 1 in 15 wins, then I ranked up from DLv.10 to DLv.MAX in 30 wins, and climbed from Legend 1 to King of Games in other 27 wins. I made a 10 winstreak from Legend 1 to Legend 3 and a final 13 winstreak to reack King of Games. It feels like the deck cannot lose!
My initial struggle with the deck was about what would be the best staple to use. I though that Forbidden Chalice would be the best because of Abyss Dweller, but after testing I was not impressed by its performance. However, I was very impressed with the Tenyi Spirits Shthana and Mapura. I think that these are the best disruptions that the deck can have because they are also Tenyi engine. They are not as flexible as other staples but they get the job done. A game in which you can summon Berserker of the Tenyi with Shthana and Mapura in the graveyard could be a good turn 1 against many decks. Moreover, many players do not even know what those guys are about. For the time being I would just play all Tenyis, but with time staples will probably be needed and we'll need to test for the best ones.
The best skill is obviously Three Effects!, because it provides 3000 LP when Berserker is out. That and the Tenyi disruptions in the graveyard can take you safely to turn 3 when theoretically you make the comeback.
I think that the worst matchup for me was Odd-Eyes when I was going second. They have several ways to bypass Mapura and Shthana, and if you have used Shthana before they summon Odd-Eyes Raging Dragon then you are done, even with Three Effects! on the count. I lost to them twice.
I had very good matchups against Destiny Heros (never lost a single game against the deck) and agaisnt Black Luster Soldier (lost only 1 game against them). Dragon Link is also very good matchup. In these three the star is Shthana. Some interesting points I found out while climbing where:
- Shthana does not target the monster it destroys, that comes up when using it agaisnt Clear Wing Synchro Dragon
- Baxia's ability destroys a monster on your field, and if it was a non-effect monster Shthana will trigger
I can imagine some of the Tenyis being limited because the deck has very high potential. Until that time comes we should enjoy playing them at full power.
Good luck with your climbs.
