Notes & Combos

My first KoG in years, had to do it with my favorite deck of all time in TCG.

Overall thoughts:

I wasn't too comfortable with shaving down on Swordsoul monsters, mostly because of me being used to TCG/MD with playing 3/2/3 for Mo/Taia/Long. In fact, for 95% of the climb, I ran a 30c list with that ratio, which worked really well. Then I started bricking quite a few times in Legend 5 and switched to a more concise build. I think both approaches are valid.

I have an ongoing bit with some Swordsoul regulars in MDM where we refuse to use Dragite. And while that is valid here due to the existence of Eclipse, I still found it to be unnecessary (in other words, I didn't have the gems to pull for it). The deck already has ways to play around Eclipse, like chaining Chixiao to Eclipse in order to trigger Golden to revive Ecclesia for a potential Albaz/Blackout play.

On that note, Albion is definitely worth playing to make the Shinobird matchup less miserable, since you can fuse away the Shinato before they get to search CoH. Amano is still a problem, but getting to Blackout is pretty consistent anyway.

I definitely think this list can be improved somewhat if you have more gems. For starters, perhaps the 2nd Chengying isn't necessary. I only played 2 because I previously had 3 Longs in my list, and I figured the 2nd can come up. A 2nd Baxia could also be nice but it also feels unnecessary since you're not playing Tenyis, thus you're not as committed to breaking boards with them. A 3rd Iris would also be good to improve consistency.

I might play around with Swordsoul Tenyi next season, but I still need Yazi. I think that's also a very promising variant.
