Notes & Combos

Back again with another trap-based deck, this time featuring Eldlich ft. Dogmatika.

I wanted to build something that could heavily punish the opponent's Extra Deck in a format dominated by white cards (Synchros). This combination managed to do exactly that, and the results have been surprisingly good. The deck has achieved around an 8/10 win rate, even against some of the strongest decks in the current meta.

Going first, the deck is extremely oppressive. Its best combo is searchable and you'll have access to it in most games since it doesn't require many cards. The main goal is to summon Tzolkin using Apophis and Coral. Once Tzolkin is on the field, you Special Summon Dragunity Knight and continue with Ecclesia, who searches Maximus.

Before summoning Maximus, you use the combo to send 3 cards from your field and 3 cards from your opponent's Extra Deck to the Graveyard, making sure to remove the cards that activate their Skill as well as the most important combo pieces. After that, you summon Maximus, forcing them to send 2 more cards from their Extra Deck. This results in a turn 1 total of -5 cards from the opponent's Extra Deck, which severely hurts many decks, including Yusei.

This strategy has given me wins against Yusei, Destiny HERO, and several other top-tier decks.

The deck is a bit weaker going second, especially if the opponent ends on two monsters. However, Kaijus combined with Eldlich usually give you a way to break through. The biggest weakness is getting your Sanctuary interrupted, but Eldlich's engine helps compensate for that. Even if your Skill gets disrupted, the Eldlich cards allow you to survive and keep playing.

One of Dogmatika's biggest flaws is that once its strategy gets stopped, it's very difficult to recover. That's exactly where Eldlich shines, constantly giving you follow-up plays and letting you stay in the game.

Would I recommend the deck?

Yes. It's not an amazing or broken deck, but it's definitely a solid and competitive choice if you enjoy trap-heavy control strategies that completely cripple the opponent's Extra Deck.
