Notes & Combos

This is a very powerful deck. Here's what I believe is the optimal turn 1 play when opening Mezuki:

  • Activate the Skill to send Mezuki and add Squire to the hand;
  • Normal summon Squire, summon Shade from the Deck;
  • Synchro summon Squiresaga using Squire and Shade;
  • Activate Spectralsword in the GY, banish itself and Squire to summon Doomkaiser;
  • (optional: activate Squire to discard 1 card and draw 1 card. This depends on your hand);
  • Link summon Vampire Sucker using Doomkaiser and Squiresaga;
  • Activate Mezuki in the GY to summon Shade from the GY, Vampire Sucker will make you draw 1 card;
  • Activate the Skill to banish Sunsaga and Shogunsaga;
  • Activate Shade, summon the banished Sunsaga and Spectralsword;
  • Link summon Yuki-Onna using Sunsaga and Vampire Sucker;
  • Link summon Vampire Sucker using Yuki-Onna and Spectralsword.

This setup provides 1 draw and 1 draw+discard during your turn to fish for backrow cards; during the opponent's turn, you can banish Yuki-Onna and summon Sunsaga from the GY, which is 1 non-targeted destruction and another draw off Sucker. Alternatively, it is possible to use Shade to summon Shogunsaga instead, then Synchro into Sunsaga and finally end on Skillsaga: this gives up a draw, but makes it possible to destroy 2 cards with Sunsaga. However, keep in mind that it is much easier to bait Skillsaga than Yuki-Onna, which is why I prefer the first combo.

Combos when opening Solitaire or Squire generally end on just Skillsaga, which is still pretty good. I am aware of Smith combos which end on Skillsaga + Samsara, however I think Smith is pretty bad when going 2nd and I didn't want to add more monsters to the list, which is also the reason why I'm playing a 24 cards list. This deck is already almost guaranteed to win when going first anyways.

The biggest problem for this deck isn't necessarily Tachyon, as Shiranui can somewhat hold its own against it when opening a tech and a starter, but the overwhelming amount of D.D. Crows and IDPs running around everywhere. Oh, and the mirror match is awful: you are almost guaranteed to win when winning the coinflip, as you can steal the opponent's Spectralsword with Doomkaiser and either banish it with Squiresaga or use it to extend into Vampire Sucker, summoning it on the field (unable to use its effect immediately) while giving you a draw in the process.

Either way, this is deck is a lot of fun and very rewarding. Most likely the strongest deck right after Tachyon.

I experimented with MST before settling with Book of Moon, as it's better against Tachyon.
