Notes & Combos
I did not expect to do this well this season with Altergeist. It turned out that I got a 15 winstreak from Legend 3 to KoG after a leisurely week-long climb earlier.
Some of the notable matchups were Predaplant, Swordsoul, Chimera, Despia, Shinobird, and Blue-Eyes. Actually, in the final 5 duels, I had to go second 4 times in a row, so I'd say this is one of the most earned KoGs in a long time!
- Chimera was always a grindy matchup, where I had to get all 3 Fusion Spells stuck in the GY and bounce Nightmare Magician as much as possible, outlasting the negates from Swordknight and Coatl.
- Predaplant wasn't hard. Dragostapelia for free is a little annoying, but if I can negate Triantis, he can't fuse from the scale and that tends to do a lot. A revived Primebanshee helped as well to quick tribute so that Hexstia dodges their negates.
- Shinobird always felt unwinnable, but somehow I got a win at the most crucial time through Dweller, Droll, Droplet going 2nd. He lacked Milky Way, and that one mistake cost him.
- Despia was a 50/50, since I had Xing Zhen Hu Replica to lock down the Branded in Red and his other face-down was Eclipse which I played through with Primebanshee.
- Blue-Eyes was the rank-up, and I had to hope he had never seen Altergeist before. It did seem that way, and I was able to use Golden Lord to snipe True Light, then chain block Spirit Dragon from negating it to catch him off guard just enough to set up double Hexstia and seal the win.
Lastly, yes, Powersink Stone did come up against Chimera, Despia, and decks that are monster-heavy. I still have Golden Lord, Kunquery, and GY effects so it becomes worth it in the end.
--- Some tips to play optimally:
- Primebanshee summoning Kunquery from the deck to negate an Ignition Effect is underrated.
- Two Emulatelf protect each other from destruction, as well as protecting a Manifestation from blowing up.
- Hexstia negate isn't once per turn if you can Manifestation revive in front of the arrow again.
- Silquitous + Kunquery negates 2 attacks.
- A major unknown fact is Kunquery can jump on the Chain at any moment during attack declaration, as long as you control an Altergeist card in that window during that Chain, and as long as Kunquery is in the hand to see the attack declaration (even if bounced for cost). That minor detail may come up.
