A Word From , TPC Manager

Hello all, in light of the recent balance update and the upcoming Arc-V World, the Top Player Council felt it appropriate that in lieu of a Tier List update, which would functionally be obsolete by tomorrow anyway, we would instead walk through the current Tier List decks and how the recent Balance Update has affected them. This will also be the Last "Tier List" update for this iteration of the TPC. October 2021 will mark a new TPC season with a fresh new meta, so stay tuned!

Overview

Due to the banlist being released today and having a decently large impact on the meta, there will be no Tier List this week. This is because at such short notice, you may as well be provided on the Top Player Council's thoughts on how the banlist impacts the current meta - since a Tier List drafted on speculation would be no more than that anyway. Alternatively, this article will consist of members of the Top Player Council sharing their thoughts on the direction they expect the meta game to take.

Evidently, Onomat has met its demise in the way many hoped it would. Though no limitations to cards in the deck were made, the (now nerfed) skill Onomatoplay was the cement keeping the deck as solid as it was. Though Onomat may not entirely disappear from relevancy, it's highly unlikely it will be dominating the format again any time soon. Some decks in the meta like Onomat were nerfed more thoroughly than others, such as Cyber Dragon and Resonator - such skill nerfs force the deck to adapt into much weaker versions of their pre-nerfed selves.

Disclaimer

This is my very first initial look on to what I think might happen to decks as we know it as a result of the balance update. As such, I'm using these as starting points and my thoughts on these are fluid over the next few weeks, especially since we have an unclear picture of what we are getting with the new world.

I think there is a period after a banlist that people won't let decks die that should and try different versions get extra creative instead of trying new decks. While this this may be a result of not having the card pool to experiment, I think think there are some new decks that are very interesting.

Onomat, Cyber Dragons, Gaia, Resonators, and T.G. are nerfed so heavily that they must be reinvented and may look significantly different by the time they perform well in any tournament. Endless Trap Hell and Hero Flash!! are weakened to a point where there's no reason to use the skills any longer. On the other hand, decks to watch out for include Photon (with minor buffs), Lunalights (an extremely powerful boss monster left untouched), and Blue-Eyes (a fan=favorite deck that wasn’t weakened by the list). All other updates aren’t expected to have any notable impacts on the metagame.

Onomat

TPC Comments

This deck is relegated to a different skill and is likely gone from the meta. Bless you Konami for this.

Onomat looks dead. I can imagine that a few people will experiment with the deck, but I don't see any great meta potential.
