Tier 1

TPC Comments

So last week I wasn't able to speak on Magnets becoming tier 1, which feels almost like a crime for the TPC’s resident rock expert / crazed fanatic who has been running magnets since day one, so I felt it only fitting to issue some sort of small statement this week.

ahem

MAGNETS BESDECKLESGOO-*unintelligible Magnet noises*!

Ok.

So fun aside, and as happy as I am to see one of my favorite decks at Tier 1 after so long, I just wanted to speak on why they became the sole Tier 1 and why they remain at Tier 1 this week. The reason? Well, put simply, its that Magnets are the best deck in a rather tame meta. Between their swarming, powerful Xyz toolbox, big boss monster, and lack of straight up losing matchups, magnets have jut the right combination of tools at their disposal to eek out their place at the top of the food chain. Again, the Meta’s weakness is certainly in part to blame for their success, but every deck should be prepared for the magnets matchup.

Underestimate the rocks at your own risk

Tier 2

TPC Comments

It appears that Gaia and Harpies will stay firmly in Tier 2 this week. I think it's quite well-established that Gaia has solidified itself as the second-best deck right now, with a highly-consistent albeit linear strategy. Harpies will always find themselves with one of the strongest plays in Loading... into Loading... , without a free Loading... , the difference between a Great hand and a "playable" hand is vast.

Tier 3

TPC Comments

Buster Blader moves up to Tier 3 because of it's decent matchup spread in the current meta. Buster is a good Gaia counter with a decent Magnet matchup because of their searchable archetypical quickplay banishing in Loading... , preventing Loading... from coming out. Buster has a lot of space for techs that can swing certain matchups in their favor which will continue to see experimentation as players try other backrow such as Loading... s, Loading... s, etc..

This week the dragon slaying deck finds itself on the Tier List at Tier 3. Having gained new support all the way back in Chaotic Soldiers, the deck has seen great success in the past week. So why is the deck only seeing success now if its support was released over a month ago? The answer to that question lies in its matchups. Buster Blader benefits greatly from Magnets and Gaia being arguably the two strongest decks in the current meta. Loading... is a powerful boss monster against both of these decks, as its piercing damage lets you deal with Magnets’ floating shenanigans and Loading... is a searchable Quick-Effect GY Banish, able to banish Magnet materials from the grave early and make it difficult to establish Loading... or any Xyz plays. Against Gaia, the deck has even more solid qualities as not only can the Buster Blader fusion stop pretty much every monster effect from Gaia, but the main boss monster of Gaia is vulnerable to itself being used as material for the Buster Blader boss monster. The deck still faces some consistency issues and their boss monster is very weak to common disruption cards such as Loading... and Loading... , but again, its strong matchups against Top Tier decks give it just enough of a niche to earn a spot at Tier 3 this week.
