Overview

In case you missed it, this week's Meta Weekly was rather interesting - with Desperado taking most of the Top 32 slots backed up by Loading... . However, what was even more interesting was the finals, where we had Luxun's Cyber Dragon up against Francesko07's Goukis, with TPC alumn Luxun coming out on top! Interview with Luxun

How do does it feel to win another Meta Weekly?

It feels very nice, to be honest. I came close two Meta Weeklies ago with Blue-Eyes but I messed up in Top 8. It's been a long time since I last won (February 2020 with Shira and May 2020 with HEROs), so it's definitely good to be back. I kinda quit tourneys last season to focus on Clan Wars, but lately I've been playing them more. Great that it's working, haha.

How did the day go for you? Any notable matchups?

The day went perfect. I had the 11-0 record even though most of my scores were 2-1, I always somehow lost one game then opened perfectly in the other two. I faced 3 Blue-Eyes, 2 Thunder Dragons, 3 Desperado, 1 Invoked Neos, 1 Gouki, and 1 Magnet Warriors. Beating Desperado in Top 32, Top 16 & Top 8 was certainly the most interesting thing today, and it was mostly thanks to Loading... eating Loading... 's effect.

Why did you go with Cyber Dragon?

I'm a person that doesn't really like playing the most-played deck, like I barely ever played Karakuri and same with Noble Knights. I remember when I won my 1st Meta Weekly with Shiranui then a Giveaway with it as well (Shiranui wasn't so famous so it was nice to play it). About Cyber Dragon: it's one of my all-time favorite decks and I seem to be very lucky with it, despite how bricky a lot of people think it is. I'm extremely happy to have won a Meta Weekly with one of my favorite decks. I ran Blue-Eyes two weeks ago when it had just received some buffs and Shiranui last week, but the win had to be with Cyber Dragon (Core).

Would you like to explain any of your Deck choices? Would you make any changes?

This decklist may seem weird at first, but there's reason behind it. Loading... was the only monster is because I'd rather open a tech than Loading... or even the original Loading... . Most of my games I opened either Core or Loading... , so I was fine. Also, Loading... is insane going firstL: it stops mostly everything. But this build is made for going 2nd, except Noble Knights against which all decks need to go first to stop its combo. I got my third Loading... from a Dream Ticket and it was really useful against Desperado, as you eat Loading... effect with it - it's like she is not there at all. Book of Moon also great in the matchup to stop Loading... from bringing an undesired Desperado. Overall, I think the build worked as intended. Loading... also very useful, as proven in Top 4 Game 3 when it allowed me to OTK over Loading... . It's like a Loading... for ignoring destruction protection, but more useful as losing LP is the key to winning with Cyber Style .

What do you think about the new Mini Box?

It seems to be very good, differently from the previous Mini Boxes. The Xyz Monsters like Loading... , Loading... and others have extremely powerful effects that can shake the Meta a bit. Also the Photon /Galaxy Archetype seems to become strong with Loading... , that can banish a card (and is also not once per turn). Some friends have been testing and they say the Onomatoplay Skill will allow some very powerful Turn 1 negations. It'll certainly be interesting to see if the new Xyz Monsters will make some decks tiered in the near future, especially with the KC Cup being held in a few weeks.

Do you have anything else you'd like to say about your Tournament Experience?

It all went very smoothly to me, like all Meta Weeklies I've ever played. I love playing in the Meta Weekly cause it's always full of top players and not as tiring as an MCS. Somehow, all of my luck is located in Meta Weeklies and not Meta Championship Series, so I should stick to these.

Lastly, do you have any shout-outs you would like to make?

Yeah for sure! For all of the clans I'm currently part of, especially Kizuki Reborn, PRU, APK, FHX, SLF and TKT. They've all helped me somehow and are places I enjoy being a part of. To me, environment is everything. In terms of friends, I'd like to say thank you to Kagami (who was chatting with me during all tourney, which make the experience a bit less stressful), Gold, itachi, Minty, Vanitur, Virus, Frost, Sham, MachineVilson, Nelliel and RyuuBR. These are my closest friends in the Duel Links realm. I'd also like to thank everyone that came to congratulate me in DMs, like leader of clans I often scrim (VVD, Turboman) and everyone that was madly cheering for me on the Cyber Dragon Channel. Thanks!
