Overview
In case you missed it, last Week's Meta Weekly really exemplified the Tier List in full, with Desperado and Invoked Neos taking up over half of Top 32. However, in the Finals, we had Refreshh and his Noble Knights up against MoAbdel with his Blackwings, with Refreshh taking it the gold!
Interview with Refreshh
Anything you'd like to say about yourself?
I'm a 23 year-old Italian Yu-Gi-Oh! player. I first played Yu-Gi-Oh! when I was a kid, but mainly just for collection. Then, in 2012, I began my competitive TCG experience by playing in an online platform called Dueling Network where you have all the cards in the TCG available to you and can test whatever deck you like the most. Then, in 2018, my friend told me about Duel Links and at first I didnt like the 3 Zone format, but then I got used to it, and now I like it way more than TCG and immediately started playing competively.
How does it feel to win your first Meta Weekly?
It feels amazing, I've tried many times in the past, so winning for the first time feels very good, especially with a deck like Noble Knights.
How did the day go for you? Any notable matchups?
I think I was pretty lucky in Swiss because I faced three Thunder Dragons (a pretty favourable matchup) in a row. The deck that gave me the most trouble was Invoked Neos with their heavy backrow. The most memorable matchup was definitly against Drizzels in the semi-finals with his Invoked Neos deck, I had a lot of fun there.
What do you think of the post-banlist meta?
I'm happy because it's not as much of a heavy backrow meta anymore, but I feel konami shouldn't have ever released the Invoked engine, because it's still too OP and still meta.
Why did you go with Noble Knights?
I went with Noble Knights because I love the deck and I wanted to try winning a Meta Weekly with it despite nobody believing in it or Xyz Decks in general. I wanted to win with something new to prove to people that the deck is worth it.
Would you like to explain any of your Deck choices? Would you make any changes?
In the main deck I wanted to play a lot of Discard Traps because Loading... in hand is not ideal. So I opted for versatile discard Traps that both backrow and monsters with Loading... , Loading... and Loading... . Looking forward, I would play Loading... in the Side Deck to counter OTK decks better.
Lastly, do you have any shout-outs you would like to make?
Shotouts to davideR and Dave who have both supported me all throughout the tourney. And special thanks to my LT Clan mates, who have supported me in all aspects of life, even outside of Duel Links.
