Overview
In case you missed it, this week's Meta Weekly was a fresh of breath air in our solidified Tier 0 meta. While Salamangreat still commanded at least half of the Top Cut, the finals had none to be found, with
's Odd-Eyes up against 's Mermail Atlanteans, with Eren coming out on Top!Interview with Eren
How does it feel to win this Meta Weekly?
This was my first Meta Weekly title and it was with my favorite Deck of all time. I feel so proud of myself for this accomplishment, and it has more value to me as it was in this Tier 0 Format. The first win is a special one.
What was your approach to this format?
I don't like to follow the trends and I only want to have fun in a competitive tourney, so I went with the second best option and the best option to combat the Tier 0 format.
Why did you go with Odd-Eyes?
I don't have fun playing Salamangreat or Mirror Match, and I think Odd-Eyes is the best counter for Salamangreat (and probably the second-best deck in the format right now in my opinion). I wanted to encourage more people to try Odd-Eyes.
How did the day go for you? Any notable matchups?
I played a Mermail Atlantean with a Frog engine, a Thuinder Dragon, and a ton of Salamangreat. I played the Thunder Dragon player in the last round of Swiss and the First round of Top Cut (It was funny that I managed to open 5 Loading... s in 4 games against them, sorry). My most interesting matchup was the finals against my friend
with the spiciest Mermail Atlantean list. I was just happy to see different decks in this boring Tier 0 meta.
Anything you'd like to say about your decklist?
For non-side format I main decked three Loading... (so you have a high chance of opening it in 20 cards). My main goal was to counter Salamangreat, as it has been dominating representation. The one-of Loading... and Loading... were for non-Salamangreat decks. I also ran one Loading... for extension through disruption and to play around Loading... .
Anything you'd like to say about your Tournament Experience?
I would like to say that, even in a Tier 0 meta or a non-Side format, you're free to play any deck you like playing and still win, so nothing wrong with trying.
Lastly, do you have any shout-outs you'd like to make?
