Overview

In case you missed it, this week's Meta Weekly was the first Meta Weekly after the new Mini BOX. As a result we had several new decks finding their way into the meta, exemplified in the finals with

's Burning Abyss taking out 's Galaxy Photon deck for his second Weekly win!

Interview with Vhypir

How does it feel to win this Meta Weekly?

It feels great! I topped the past four Meta Weeklies and Freeklies since my first Meta Weekly win, so I'm glad I was able to finally complete the run this time.

What was your approach to the format?

I'm glad I experimented the new box format so much in leagues and tournaments (by slapping in random cards until something worked), because I think I was able to find a pretty solid deck for the direction of the meta. The extra deck is optimized in my opinion, but there's a lot you can do with the Main Deck now, so I wouldn't say mine is the way to go yet. No Side Deck helps BA a lot to prevent floodgates from being used on us like Loading... and Loading... .

Why did you go with Burning Abyss?

Aside from it being my favorite deck in the recent formats, it's unironically the best archetype now with Loading... . Beatrice pass with a follow-up Loading... does more for the deck than any amount of backrow could do in a lot of matchups. The versatility Beatrice provides is exactly what the deck needed.

How did the day go for you? Any notable matchups?

Everything was pretty smooth until I dueled Hash's Burning Abyss in Top 8. We've been practicing the deck a lot and his improvement was on full display in G2 of the match when he overran my board of monsters with speed and accuracy and avoided my guaranteed lethal next turn. To be frank, the match could've gone either way, I just happened to go first more times. Other than that, matches were fairly smooth and easy.

Anything you'd like to say about your decklist?

I liked the backrow removal that I implemented in there to help going second, secure mid to late game lethals and disrupt DDD going first. Loading... is great because it's a 1600 ATK Monster to attack with Loading... , a Level 3, can be used offensively or defensively, outs a Loading... , and takes away the option of going for all out lethals through Beatrice. It's something the opponent always has to prepare for, in my opinion.

Do you have anything else you'd like to say about your Tournament Experience?

While the participation was fairly low, it was composed of a lot of the best next-gen Duel Links players and people who are really invested in the game so thank y'all for competing, and I hope you'll continue with me.

Lastly, do you have any shout-outs you'd like to make?

I really appreciate the effort

puts into making the streams and commentary interesting. He's carrying a lot of the hype for the game right now, and I wanted to show my love and appreciation.

Shoutout to Regular Kids and all of my other teams for being such awesome motivators and people. Follow my Twitter, I'll be posting my tourney wins, league achievements, and my opinions on various YGO things there. I'll try to maintain my #1 spot on the top player leaderboard, but regardless, I'm looking forward to being a part of next season's Top Player Council with players stemming from such a great meta. Thank you for playing Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links!
