Overview

In case you missed it, this week's Meta Weekly was the first weekly back to Side Deck Format. In the finals, we had ChuChuMTFKR's Harpies up against ZENITH's Blue-Eyes in a scrappy three game slugfest, with ZENITH coming out on top!

Interview with ZENITH

How does it feel to win another weekly?

Winning is always fun, but a win in this format is bittersweet. Most matches are decided by who opens better, even if there are little interactions that can lose you games if you don't learn.

How did it go for you today?

It went very well (10-0). Blue-Eyes is able to cover all of its bases by siding powerful cards such as Loading... to beat Onomats and other OTK decks, Loading... for the mirror and decks like Fire Kings, and Loading... to blowout Darklords. In a Side format, Blue-Eyes does not really have any matchups bad enough to be considered a counter, or at least you won't face any of those decks in a tournament. Usually, the game is dependent on how well you drew, and I drew very well today so it was indeed smooth sailing.

Would you like to explain any of your Deck choices?

I'm just personally not a fan of the Loading... (affectionally named "the bad stone" by many people) even though it helps in many scenarios. As far as Loading... goes (and this also applies to the bad stone), I valued opening backrow more consistently over making Loading... Turn 1. If you play Loading... its awkward to play other Traps, and Loading... is good in almost every matchup, so my Side Deck was mostly focused on switching out the two Trap slots for blowout cards.

Lastly, Do you have any shout-outs you'd like to make?

Shout-out to my team-mates at X-0 (Tommy, Gabe, Mithyard, Lordy, Cam, Davide, Stakks and others) for supporting me throughout the tournament. And shoutout to Sneed and Chuck for being based.
