Overview

In case you missed it, this week's Meta Championship Series was the first large-scale KC Cup-style tournament with The King of Vermillion Mini BOX. As Such, Resonators were everywhere, warping the meta around them. However, in a surprising turn of events, we had a Shiranui mirror of all things in the Finals, with Davide Magri taking the win in a close three-game match. Interview with Davide Magri

How do does it feel to win the Meta Championship Series?

It feels incredibly good, especially to do it with an unexpected deck. When I lost my first MCS finals my first thought went to getting that chance again, and in a crazy turn of events, it happened today, ironically with the deck I lost against the first time.

Why did you go with Shiranui?

Well, people would probably expect some 500 IQ theory, but it honestly was a little bit forced since I wasn't able to build an optimized list for other decks, which meant I had to get a little bit creative. I tested the deck in a small tournament between friends (shoutouts to the Casual Heroes server), and optimized it after playing against very good players.

How did the day go for you?

Round 1 was against a Thunder Dragon, which I felt was my worst matchup today, as he was still running Loading... s and not Loading... , which Shiranui doesn't really care about. Luckily, I dodged all the Harpie players, which meant every other game was smooth sailing. The first few rounds felt like a clown fiesta, since I faced...let's say "weird" strategies, which lost to all of the Trap Cards in my deck. Top Cut started with a Shiranui mirror and ended with another one, in both of those I felt that my list was more prepared for it with the inclusion of Loading... and my choice to ignore Loading... . Luckily, the other Thunder Dragon player I faced bricked incredibly hard, as it would have been a pretty bad matchup with the hands I drew.

Anything else you'd like to say about your decklist?

When talking with Mithyard before the tournament, we figured to cut the third copy of Loading... from the deck since it wasn't live most of the times, and even when it was, tributing a Loading... is not your best option. Additionally, Endless Trap Hell can return the Ballistas regardless, which meant I was never running out of them anyways. Loading... was chosen to fill the slot, as I still wanted to run a "bigger" deck, which came up a lot in deckout games against Fire King.

Winning Decklist:

What are your plans for KCGT

I wasn't supposed to be able to play it, but due to me accidentally screwing up my exams schedule for university, I will be able to do it. I expect Loading... decks to come back, since the result of this MCS showed what would happen in an environment without it. Resonators are probably going to be the most played deck of the tournament, as it's fairly easy to play and very consistent.

Anything else you'd like to say about your tournament experience?

I would like to say that while I'm incredibly happy about this achievement, this is not the point where I want to stop. I've never won a big team competition, and I've never performed too well in KC Cup-style events, so this is only the beginning for me.

Any shout-outs you'd like to make?

Mad shoutouts to the people who I've VC'd throughout the day: Dave, Wowerer, Tuni57, Mithyard, Zimooooooooooo and Fakezix. Also shoutouts to every X-0, Lost Tribe and Big Decks player, especially Taaha, Bixie and ZENITH (bork u XeNNw0w and Francesko07). Also shoutouts to [#DavideR}, even though he doesn't play the game anymore, he is there to buy me TCG cards so I can build decks.

Also shoutouts to ZaGaZaGa and Juk3d, who I had to play against in Top 4 and Finals.

Oh and read Victory Gaming.

One last thing I'd like to bring up is a funny fact: a few days prior to this tournament I made a Valorant account to play with Fakezix, and I jokingly named it "MCS Champ". Well, guess it's not a joke anymore.
