Tier List Update - February 3rd

Disclaimer

With the current shift to 2-Deck format which will be applied to this upcoming MCS and Meta Weekly, this Tier List was made with this format in mind.

Tier 1

Autumn Leaf

Though there have been disagreements as to the placement of this deck over the last few weeks, the consensus has been that it is a Tier 2 deck in side deck format (particularly because of the existence of Artifact Lancea). However, in non-side deck formats, players are much less inclined to main deck a card that is potentially useless against certain match ups.

Elementsabers have been promoted to Tier 1 this week as the deck has lost an unfavourable matchup with the decline of Darklords and the addition of Fiendish Chain already improving the matchup. The transition to 25+ card builds has also hurt Shiranui, who suffer with milling fewer cards than they were used too in prior weeks.

Tier 2

Shiranui dropped to Tier 2 do to the fact that Dark Magician and Elementsabers are built to counter this deck. Dark Magician with Sealed Tombs and Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer and Invoked Elementabers playing 25+ card decks make it hard to play Grass Shiranui successfully.

Negative1

The rise of high card count Elementsabers results in another bad matchup for Shiranui in the meta, and with the format shifting to 2 Deck the strengths of Elementsabers have the opportunity to shine. The versatility of Palace of the Elemental Lords results in a strategy that has a response for anything and is currently the best 1 card starter going first.

With the demotion of Shiranui and the rising of the Elementsabers it is possible that Darklords can become more popular in upcoming events. The deck doesn’t have a tough time with Dark Magician if it can set up first and open Cosmic Cyclone, which isnt too difficult since the deck usually runs 3. It will be interesting to see this upcoming MCS if Darklord players take advantage of the uptick in favored matchups.

Ninjas with My Monster Cards have been a hot topic since the changes to this Skill were discovered. Essentially the Skill guarantees that the first three cards in your hand will be Level 4 or lower monsters. The 4th card in hand is usually a non-monster so players are electing to run a higher deck count by adding additional S/T, increasing the odds of drawing them.

The reason this Skill is seeing play with ninjas is that it increases the odds you open Ninja Grandmaster Hanzo, who enables you to search your deck for yout Ninjistu Art S/Ts. This could potentially lead to a setup of 2 Ninjitsu Art Traps, depending on what your 4th card in hand was.

The issue with Ninjas is that many forms of common disruption like Cosmic Cyclone and flip-down effects such as Floodgate Trap Hole really hurt the deck.

Crystrons have a great matchup against the 30-card Shiranui decks, and this brought them back to the meta for a week. The fall of Shiranui means that Crystron lost a good matchup, while they struggle against the most popular decks of the format (Elementsabers and Dark Magician). This means they dropped from the Tier List, until the meta shifts back in their favour.
