Top Player Council Thoughts

“What are your thoughts on D.D. Sprite?”

Mistilteinn:

Quite a good Tuner monster, but keep in mind that if you Synchro her away the monster banished by the cards effect will not return during your next standby phase. Even though all that, the card is one of the best currently accessable Tuners.

Rafa:

Really interesting card for the future.

Luke Tyler:

I see potential in this card, but at the moment we have terrible Synchro monsters. It might be worth noting that you can search this with Cyber Angel Benten, but I don’t see that synergy being relevant.

zaidking:

A card to keep an eye on, looks very promising and really one of the better Tuners we have, what we’re only missing now is good synchro monsters. It’s splashable in almost any deck and can also work well with skills like Cyber Style. Definitely the card to get this season.

SDotAkuma:

Great utility Tuner. Best one we have so far. First deck that comes to mind with it is Vampires! That’s where I’ll be trying it first!

monkeyboy44:

Relative to the rest, this might be the best and most splashable Tuner we have so far. Definitely worth your UR ticket for the season.

Kcful:

Generic level 1 Tuner, has potential.

Sasuke:

This is by far the best card we got for Ranked Rewards this month. For now, it may not be too useful for the decks in our current meta but it will for sure see some play once Synchros finally get some good support and have way more potential.

tomvdelzen:

I’m new with Synchro/Tuner cards but it looks like it has future potential.

“What are your thoughts on Earth Effigy?”

Rafa:

Just an irrelevant card, nothing much here.

Luke Tyler:

I don’t recall any big earth monster worth tribute summoning.

zaidking:

Wouldn’t recommend this at all. Want to run tribute decks? Go for Monarchs.

Kcful:

Bad!

Sasuke:

The meta is all about special summoning currently rather than having to set up single tributes without being able to swarm the board like in Vampires or the single copy of Dyna, Hero Fur Hire in Fur Hires. This card can be potentially killed off before you even get to tribute it if your opponenet plays an aggressive deck, or has an Amazoness Onslaught.

tomvdelzen:

Trash!

“What are your thoughts on Shadow Tamer?”

Rafa:

Trash!

Luke Tyler:

I don’t see any usefulness with this card other than teasing wayne kenoff about how it’s an Archfiends card.

zaidking:

Not even good as a side deck card versus Archfiends, pretty slow.

SDotAkuma:

A side deck format is the only place this card would ever see play.

monkeyboy44:

Inb4 wayne kenoff tries to cling to this to get Archfiends back on the Tier List!

Kcful:

wayne kenoff waifu. Bad.

Sasuke:

Not really the support Archfiends would hope for. The deck sees little to no play so the effect of taking control of an opponent’s Fiend-Type monster is pretty much useless currently. You can, however use it as discard fodder for Call of the Archfiend, but any other Fiend/Archfiend card you could play in the deck would be better to run than this (for example, Sphere Kuriboh/Kuriboh, Chaos Hunter, Archfiend Empress, Archfiend Emperor, the First Lord of Horror, Invader of Darkness, etc.).

tomvdelzen:

Trash!

“What are your thoughts on Prime Material Dragon?”

Mistilteinn:

Format reliant, but it’s a good card. If the meta shifts to a heavy destruction meta, this card could see play.

Rafa:

It’s a good card, but I don’t see it being used effectively on a meta deck.

Luke Tyler:

This is a pretty cool card for Dragon decks and against Burn. But for a level 6 monster it can be easily removed through means other than card effect destruction.

zaidking:

This is basically alright vs Widespread Ruin, Treacherous Trap Hole, and Vampire Kingdom. What I really dislike about this card is how the downsides of it outweighs its benefits which aren’t great anyways to be honest.

SDotAkuma:

Mostly a side deck card, could see play in Monarchs in a more destruction centered meta.

monkeyboy44:

Maybe in the right meta with the right support?

Kcful:

Hmm not good in this meta, has some potential.

Sasuke:

The first effect of this card wouldn’t really be helpful right now since effect damage practically never occurs in the current meta. The second effect of protecting from card effects is decent, but in Duel Links this can be way too costy. You would lose a card just by getting this card on board then lose another each time you choose to negate a Donpa, Marksman Fur Hire effect, Treacherous Trap Hole, etc. and your opponent can just exhaust your resources then simply beat over a weak 2400 attack.

tomvdelzen:

I don’t think this card will see any play.

“What are your thoughts on Heart of the Underdog?”

Mistilteinn:

Decent card that might make for some sick meme decks but not meta relevant.

Rafa:

This card can be used for some decks for fun, for example, Exodia decks.

Luke Tyler:

You could play a cheesey Grandpa’s Cards deck with 3 of this and 17 normal monsters. It wouldn’t work too often but it would make cool YouTube clips when it does.

zaidking:

This might help decks like Exodia or Spirit Ryu OTK, but definitely nothing meta relevant, normal monsters are pretty garbage in Yu-Gi-Oh.

SDotAkuma:

May see use in farm decks.

monkeyboy44:

“Exodia… OBLITERATE!!”

Kcful:

Definitely has potential, Exodia decks get a boost.

Sasuke:

This card was actually really good even as a 1 of back in previous meta’s that included normal monster cards such as Harpies, Dinos etc. but has not see any play since then. As of now this card isn’t really useful as far as competitive play since normal monsters aren’t really used in the top decks we have but it can potentially see some use in the future depending on how Konami shifts the meta over the span of the next few months.

tomvdelzen:

Exodia POGGERS

“What are your thoughts on Ancient Rules?”

Mistilteinn:

Decent card. Good in Blue-Eyes White Dragon decks.

Rafa:

I see this card being used in Dark Magician for fun decks, but I do not see any real potential in the card.

Luke Tyler:

With the introduction of new Blue-Eyes cards alongside the already existing Dark Magician support it’s nice to finally have access to a third copy of this. For an R Ticket reward this is very nice.

zaidking:

This is basically good for people who never got round to levelling up Mokuba. I doubt this will be ran at 3 in any sort of normal deck.

SDotAkuma:

The two we had was probably enough, but cool.

monkeyboy44:

Spitting out vanilla beaters just doesn’t go as far as it used to.

Kcful:

Good card, will definitely see some play.

Sasuke:

Having a third copy of this card could be really nice for a Synchro meta to match some Level 2 Tuners etc.

tomvdelzen:

I don’t see any use for a 3rd copy of this card.

“What are your thoughts on Harpie Lady?”

Rafa:

Just a generic drop card, nothing different here.

Luke Tyler:

Summoning it with Unexpected Dai with Harpies’ Hunting Ground present is a pretty cool play.

zaidking:

There are better Harpie cards.

monkeyboy44:

Technically the best N reward we have for a ticket now I think.

Kcful:

Bad!

Sasuke:

Not really important to be a Ranked Reward being that not only can you farm this N card at the gate from Mai, this card practically sees no play at all currently.

tomvdelzen:

Trash!
