Top Player Council Thoughts

“What are your thoughts in LP Change”

MiguelJoker says:

I prefer 5000 lp but they should ban cyber stein if they keep 5000. Well for me 4000 lp it’s low u just need 1 hero and 1 Mask Change for otk so I believe 5000 would make the speed duels more slow a little.

Serenity says:

Personally, I prefer keeping the game at 4,000 life points. It didn’t actually fix anything it intended to fix. From what I believe it was to supposed to keep pure OTK decks at bay (Like Masked Heroes) yet all decks that could OTK at 4,000 could still easily OTK at 5,000 as well, all it did was create more problems for the ladder and made an unhealthy deck viable (Stall) (Cyber-Stein). Although, with that being said, OTK decks are still a huge problem. If Konami truly wants to fix this issue they’d have to resort changing the life point count even higher. I believe 6,000 LP would fix the problem of OTKs but this change would also bring more problems, most notably being games taking way too long. Konami’s original intent was to have duels take only a couple of minutes to please casual players, so I don’t think we can expect to see this happen.

skillShot says:

Feels good to be back at 4k LP, even though I personally liked being at 5k last month, it didn’t fix anything at all and it felt weird having a different meta on the ladder, especially the same month the RRQ took place and after having a new banlist which kinda slowed the meta game. A permanent LP change I wouldn’t mind but maybe 5k isn’t the answer.

Eugen Heidt says:

I didn’t play that much with 5k Life, bc we just had it in Ranked. Would’ve been nice if we were able to test it in tournaments. In theory I like an increase like that, the game became way too fast, Sylvan had easy OTKs with 2 monsters, which are just slightly over 4k, Heroes kill you fast with Forbidden Chalice and Furys can kill you with a negation. All the Stall Skills have been nerfed, so they cant abuse a high amount of Life Points anyways. Overall I dislike the fact that they just tested it for one month and just for Ranked Duels, which no one plays anyways, once they reached KoG.

Negative1 says:

I miss 5k life as it was nice that games didn’t last 3 turns max, but it makes sense that it would be 4k because every other part of the game runs at 4k.

Mr. Cellophane says:

5k was a nice experiment and it’s good to see Konami willing to change up the format. I still think I like 4k better because 5k lp took a bit longer and saw more people just using it to abuse cyber stein.

Yehhey says:

I liked 5k a lot as it prevented OTKs and was a nice change of pace. My criticism is when games aren’t OTKs they can still take very long and I imagine they’d take even longer with 5K. I’m tilting towards preferring 5K especially in the future when they release better cards it may be necessary. It seems to me the 5k change may have been a way to get people to play a slightly different ladder and not be bored by it after binging with the World Championship Qualifier.

negão do zap says:

I liked 5k life points because it prevents most one-turn kills and favours decks that are not so “explosive”. I believe longer duels favour the better player and I believe the better player should win always. The main change will be Beatdown being more relevant with 4k life points back, so Fur Hires and Masked Heroes will be stronger as Amazoness grows weaker. I hope 5K LP comes back soon, so the meta doesn’t become a one-turn kill coin flip every game.

ShinySopheon says:

While I guarantee the LP will need to increase from 4000 in the future when more busted cards arrive, I don’t feel like it’s time for that just yet. The ladder last season felt very awkward to play, and also lent itself towards new cheesy decks. If they plan on testing something like this again in the future I hope they give us the option to use the ruleset in duel rooms as well, as it makes the ladder even less indicative of the tournament metagame.

Jason says:

4K seems like the right amount as they slowed the format down through limiting cards, 5k feels like an entirely new meta which could be an interesting change of pace for the game.

Whybona says:

I didn’t like ranked being at 5k LP this season since it was different from everywhere else, including the RRQ which happened during this month. I prefer the format at 4K LP since I enjoy the fast paced games but the most important thing to me is that they choose one and stick to it throughout.

Mistilteinn says:

While I personally liked ranked being at 5k lp for a breath of fresh air I don’t think that the game was quite ready for it yet. Cards like Cyber-Stein cannot exist if konami wants to push for a change in life points. If Konami prematurely limited or banned Cyber-Stein before testing I think that the experience might have been better.

grucius says:

I didnt like the idea of konami of changing the lp during the same moment of the rrq cause that makes harder test in the rank. Btw until we will have cards that can abuse of that like Cyber-Stein the 5k idea can’t be a good solution for the game.

kwrowe says:

I think because Konami didn’t restrict Cyber-Stein they have no immediate plans to return anything to 5000 LP. However, I think this is a mistake. It has to be said that the timing for the original test was bad because it was so close to the RRQ. Still, the idea itself was good. The game is becoming more and more OTK based now with 2 of the top 3 decks consistently able to OTK. This takes out much of the skill in the game, and makes it more luck based. Although 5000 LP is not the perfect response to this, it is a step in the right direct. This was would make OTK decks less consistent, meaning the users would have to be more skilful. Playing in an OTK format is never really that fun, as there’s low interaction.

Stevie says:

I really enjoyed the change of pace. Outside of Cyber-Stein, which should really just be hit by this point anyways, I think that increasing it a bit further is the way to go. 6k personally feels like it would be the sweet spot, especially since the card pool used is designed for 8k life anyways.

look at god says:

Honestly hated 5k life points, felt like such an awkward threshold to hit. The tier 1 decks can still easily otk at 5k, I think it makes lower tier decks struggle more than they already do. Plus I felt it changed a lot of deliberate lethal thresholds that felt important to the inherent balance of the game. I actually used a Cyber-Stein amazoness build to hit KoG for 5K format, but never felt like it was a super unfair since theres so many outs to Ojama King these days and honestly Cyber-Stein didn’t come up that much, plus konami can always just hit Cyber-Stein if they wanted to make a permanent change.

BlackJesus says:

Cyber-Stein banned in the TCG? For good reason. Should be kept at 4K until they deal with that. They’ve already hit almost all other OTK potential decks. So, 5K for pvp/duel room is fine for me, if that’s what they were going for with that test.

Thoughts on Fiendish Engine Ω

MiguelJoker says:

Trash.

Serenity says:

It does the same job other already bad cards in the game do right now. It won’t see competitive play.

skillShot says:

More like Fiendish Engine OmegaLUL, pretty useless card with a bad effect.

Eugen Heidt says:

Trash.

Negative1 says:

A great coaster for your drink.

Mr. Cellophane says:

Not fiend support.

Yehhey says:

Single ply toilet paper. Big beater with a useless effect, no built in special summoning mechanic, not even a fiend for Call of the Archfiend even though it has fiend in its name. Nothing is good about this card.

negão do zap says:

A high attack monster, that’s it. We’ll see this a lot in Rookie rank. Irrelevant.

Whybona says:

Trash.

BlackJesus says:

AKA Fiendish Engine Beta. Trash

Thoughts on Maiden of the Aqua

MiguelJoker says:

No place in tier decks

Serenity says:

A 2,000 defense monster would of been relevant 12 months ago. The only deck it supports (SSA) isn’t a great deck and this support isn’t anything special. It won’t see competitive play.

skillShot says:

Might be worthed testing it in SSA, but I don’t really see it being used competitively.

Eugen Heidt says:

Stats aren’t too bad. Might be decent if the requirement of having Umi becomes more necessary.

Negative1 says:

Moves SSA from tier 7 to tier 6… maybe.

Mr. Cellophane says:

Levia-Dragon - Daedalus memes?

Yehhey says:

Double ply toilet paper. Stick this in your SSA deck for fun when you’re bored of the meta. Even in that deck where is has clear synergy because it counts as Umi, its 2000 DEF isn’t enough to stop big threats in this metagame. When you banish it to protect it from getting destroyed with SSA that takes its Umi effect off the field rendering SSA useless if you have a Lv5+ Water on the field and no Umi field spell.

negão do zap says:

Can be used in a Whale/SSA deck but won’t add anything of relevance to the deck.

ShinySopheon says:

Maiden is a qt, that’s about it.

Whybona says:

Trash.

BlackJesus says:

She’s like some women out here. Only nice to look at and does not help. Trash

Thoughts on Energy Bravery

MiguelJoker says:

It’s gemini support

Serenity says:

Gemini’s are way to slow for the meta. Unless we see some serious Gemini support. Anything Gemini will be seen as irrelevant as they have no way to keep up with the current meta. It won’t see competitive play.

skillShot says:

Too slow, not gonna see use with what we currently have for Geminis.

Eugen Heidt says:

Gemini already needs their Normal Summons for other stuff.

Negative1 says:

It’s gemini support.

Mr. Cellophane says:

Why even bother coding this into the game?

Yehhey says:

Like using a leaf as toilet paper. No synergy with the archtype its attempting to support. Takes a normal summon up from Blazewing Butterfly and can’t be used as fodder for Superalloy Beast Raptinus.

negão do zap says:

This card can be used in a for-fun gemini build. For that, the meta would have to shift to spell/trap cards with monster destruction effects. But I believe we won’t ever use it for competitive play.

Whybona says:

Trash.

BlackJesus says:

Gemini in 2018. Trash
