“What are your thoughts on the new Blue-Eyes support?”
The engine seems decent, but Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon seems easy to out for decks such as Spellbooks and Amazoness. However, it may be good vs Vampires.
Any deck that relies on large beatsticks must be compared to Heroes. Without some of the more broken cards like Maiden with Eyes of Blue I don’t think the deck is consistent enough to compete against the current meta decks. Amazoness and Spellbook banishing kill the deck and it has no response without tech cards. tl;dr Kisara or riot.
“What are your thoughts on X-Sabers?”
Similar to Mermails, it seems Konami has given them the power cards but not the enablers. As powerful as a card like XX-Saber Hyunlei is, there is currently no easy way to summon it.
X-Saber Wayne and XX-Saber Hyunlei are decent, but without some of their better boss monsters they lack power plays; the deck has no method of removing larger monsters without tech cards.
“What are your thoughts on the Stardust Dragon support?”
The monster itself is amazing, but will probably just be used in decks that can make it, rather than spawning its own deck.
They will be nice for when Konami lets us play legendary 5D’s decks, but otherwise I’d not touch them.
“What are your thoughts on the new Genex support?”
I have a soft spot on my heart for Genex, but it’s not looking too promising for them at the moment. Genex Undine can be used with Atlantean monsters for free removal.
Genex Undine is one of the few good cards in this box, but not because it’s a Genex monster. Milling a WATER monster is much more valuable than the plus effect of adding Genex Controller.
“What are your thoughts on the new Gusto support?”
They need their Synchros.
Gustos’ issue is that they are too slow; even their new boss Synchro only gets its mediocre effect off in the end phase. Reactive decks are generally weak as they require the opponent to enable your strategies.
“Are there any other cards that you expect to have a significant influence on the current meta?”
In terms of the main deck, there is probably none. My advice, especially for non-P2P players, is to just go through the box one time to obtain 1 copy of all the synchro monsters. Stardust Dragon will probably be good for at least a few boxes. Flamvell Uruquizas may or may not see play as there is already another generic level 6 synchro in the game, but since it’s in the same box, it’s probably worth picking up as well. Other than those two, this box is probably skippable without missing too much.
Stardust and some of the other generic Synchros might see fringe play but other than that they are garbage.
“Are there any other cards with significant future potential?”
Unexpected Dai has future potential depending on if normal tuners don’t get powercrept before we get strong generic Synchros. Final Thoughts: This set has 2 maybe 3 good cards in the whole thing. Overall, not something you should invest in unless you want to have fun with Blue-Eyes for a few games.
